Join our launch event on the 8th of July.

Inclusive innovation is both the smart thing and the right thing to do.

It’s a mindset, a practice and a commitment.

Innovation thrives on diversity, yet current models leave people behind. This leads to exclusion for individuals and reduced impact and growth for organisations. Inclusive innovation recognises that when you bring in more voices, challenge default assumptions and empower more people you build smarter, more relevant solutions and drive better business outcomes.

Inclusive Innovation Principles

Deliberate inclusion is required to minimise accidental exclusion.
Inclusive innovation requires a shift in current practices, to embed inclusion across the innovation lifecycle; from ideation to launch and beyond, and throughout the supporting ecosystem, from funding and support to networks.
To innovate inclusively is to:

01 Design beyond average – Reject the myth of the ‘typical user’ and build for the full range of human diversity.

02 Widen participation – Go beyond tokenisation or exploitation, using inclusive techniques & empathy to involve diverse perspectives to co-create better, more relevant solutions.

03 Challenge Inequity – Identify and challenge inequity, structural barriers and systemic bias by examining who holds power, whose voices are missing, and where value is unevenly distributed.

04 Be accountable for impact – Create solutions that have a positive impact on individuals, communities, and society, and own the intended and unintended consequences of your actions.

05 Measure Inclusion – Track inclusion & social impact alongside financial returns, with meaningful metrics that identify who may be overlooked and opportunities to improve.

Frequently Asked Questions

Innovation is about solving problems. Inclusive innovation is about doing this in ways that benefit everyone.

Inclusive innovation is the creation of solutions, technologies, and practices that incorporate diverse perspectives, remove barriers and create more relevant, enhanced experiences for a broader audience, including those often underserved.

It isn’t a sideline or alternative approach – it should be standard practice for all innovation to have positive social aims embedded.

  • Amplify is sector-agnostic—we support inclusive innovation across all industries.

  • We often see the greatest immediate impact in sectors like fintech, healthtech, and edtech, but our work is not limited to these areas.

  • Our primary focus is on innovation that results in digital products and services—from platforms and apps to digital tools, services, and experiences.

  • We care about where inclusion and digital innovation intersect, ensuring the next wave of technology is built for everyone, by everyone.

  • Our aim is to help shape digital ecosystems that reflect the diversity of society, embedding inclusion from ideation through to launch and beyond.

  • Amplify fosters cross-sector learning, enabling insights and strategies to be shared and adapted across different domains for broader impact.

  • Accessibility focuses on removing barriers for people with disabilities, ensuring that digital products and services can be used by as many people as possible, regardless of impairment.

  • Inclusivity is broader—it’s about designing with the full diversity of people in mind, including differences in race, gender, age, socio-economic background, sexuality, neurodiversity, and more.

  • Accessibility is a vital component of inclusion, but inclusion goes further, considering the full spectrum of human difference and asking whose needs are considered from the start, who gets to participate, and whose voices are shaping the outcomes.

  • Inclusive design is a design approach—ensuring that a wide range of people can access and use a product or service. It’s typically focused on the design stage of product development.

  • Inclusive innovation is broader and more systemic—it’s about who gets to innovate, how ideas are shaped, and what problems get prioritised in the first place.

  • Inclusive innovation considers the entire lifecycle, from early research and ideation, to funding, design, build, and scale. It also looks at the ecosystems and power structures that shape innovation.

  • Put simply: inclusive design is one key practice within inclusive innovation. The latter is about changing the way we innovate, not just what we design.

Tech businesses creating digital products or services for mainsteam or underserved audiences, as well as organisations that support the innovation ecosystem.

Individual members are senior leaders with influence over the creation of digital products and services or the broader innovation ecosystem. They want to drive change, but want to be part of a collective movement where they can learn together, support each other, and have a bigger collective impact.

Ideally you sign up for your organisation to demonstrate broader commitment. However if your organisation is not yet ready,  you can join as an individual member. Being part of the community will help you be better placed to get further buy in within your organisation.
  • Be part of a positive movement redefining how innovation is practised to benefit all.
  • Be a champion of change by showing your commitment to inspire others to take action.
  • Learn faster, stay accountable and build better together.
  • Get inspired and supported by tools, stories, and real-world insights.
  • We can achieve so much more if we work together!

Being part of Amplify means taking action on our three member commitments to champion the movement, take inclusive action and share your progress.

At a minimum we expect our members to share ideas that promote inclusive innovation or encourage others to join Amplify at least once a quarter, and participate in our annual survey to share how you have been contributing to our collective mission.

We don’t prescribe exactly how you act — your context, role and resources will shape what makes the most sense. What matters is that every member takes meaningful steps to help make inclusive innovation the norm.

Amplify is an inclusive, volunteer-led collective, not a passive network. We’re building a community of people and organisations with the agency and drive to push this work forward. We expect members to be proactive in their contribution — whether that’s through applying the playbook, influencing decision-makers, or starting conversations that shift thinking.

You’re also encouraged to engage in our community of practice — by joining events, sharing what you’re learning, or contributing insights and content that help progress the emerging field of product equity.

Together, we’re shaping a new standard for innovation: one that’s inclusive by design, not by exception.

Joining Amplify is about joining a community, learning from others, and taking small, manageable steps. Your best move will depend on your individual context. The first step might be as simple as telling others about Amplify, expanding who you involve in testing, adopting more inclusive meeting practices or making inclusivity a standard consideration in your design process. The Inclusive Innovation Playbook provides a guide that will give you lots of ideas that you can adapt to your needs.

Start with your audience. The goal isn’t to serve everyone on Earth but to ensure you’re not excluding people within your target market. Look at who you currently serve, who might be missing, and take small, intentional steps to improve reach and empower more people.

No. It’s about progress, not perfection. Joining Amplify connects you with others on the same journey, so you can learn and build knowledge, confidence and support to do more over time.

Mistakes happen—it’s how you respond that matters. The goal isn’t to delay shipping until every possible aspect of diversity is considered but to act with intention and avoid exclusion by oversight. It’s about continuous improvement, not getting everything perfect from day one. A willingness to listen, adapt, and improve is what matters.
No. Inclusion makes innovation stronger, not slower. Diverse teams make better decisions and inclusion drives high performance. Fixing accessibility or usability gaps later is far more time-consuming and expensive than considering them from the outset.
Inclusive innovation expands your market. Many businesses find that addressing a wider range of needs actually improves the experience for all users. Younger generations increasingly expect inclusivity—this is about future-proofing your business.
Inclusion is smart business. Businesses that embed inclusion into their products and services unlock new markets, improve customer retention, and drive innovation. Diverse teams outperform less diverse ones, leading to better financial outcomes.
Some changes—like adopting inclusive practices or expanding who you test with—have an immediate impact. Others, like shifting internal culture, take longer. Embedding inclusion early ensures long-term benefits, from stronger customer relationships to more resilient business models. The key is to embed inclusive thinking early, so the benefits compound over time.

Yes. Inclusion doesn’t have to be expensive – it’s about better decisions. Many improvements, like asking better questions in research, broadening user testing, or challenging assumptions in design, require little to no extra budget. Plus, being a part of the community offers free resources, shared learnings, and support to help you take action. Familiarise yourself with the research that shows the return on inclusion to help you secure future investment. You can build buy in and budget over time to enable you to achieve more.

Innovation should include everyone

Let’s make it happen – together
